DESIGN ONLINE

How do I design my own calendar online?

Visit the main product gallery and select your preferred calendar style. Upload your images & start designing your calendar straight away!

Choose your payment method - credit / debit card or purchase order (for existing account holders).

Await your delivery – Orders under 50 calendars will be despatched 5 working days (on orders placed before noon), to arrive on the 6th working day. Orders over 50 calendars will be despatched in 10 working days (to arrive on the 11th working day).

What size and quality should my images be?

To get the best quality print your images should be 300dpi (dots per inch) at the size they appear in the calendar. As this can be tricky to gauge there is a table below which shows the pixel dimensions required of the images on the various products. Don't worry if your images are bigger, however if they're too small there can be print quality issues such as pixellation (a 'jagged' look to the image). The online editor will warn you with a yellow triangle if your image is of a low-resolution or small size.

You can find the pixel dimensions of your images using the following guide:

On a PC running Windows XP- right click image, choose 'properties', at top choose 'summary', if not expanded choose 'advanced', width and height of image is shown as pixels.

On a PC running Windows 7 - right click image, choose 'properties', at top choose 'details', width and height of image is shown as pixels.

On a Mac - Whilst pressing ctrl on your keyboard click on image, select 'Get Info' from sub-menu, if not expanded open the 'More Info' panel, dimensions of image are shown as pixels.

I want more than one sponsor image at the foot?

Currently the templates only allow for 1 sponsors image on each leaf of the calendar. You can however combine several images together yourself to create a single file for upload, using the image sizes listed above as a target. If you don't own any photo editing software there are numerous free image manipulation programmes available for download.

For PC you could try PixBuilder Studio

TIP: Create a new file, use pixel sizes listed above and set resolution to 300 pixels per inch. Open the images you wish to combine, copy and paste them into your new PixBuilder document. Use Layer/Free Transform to adjust size of the various elements. Save the image as a pixbuilder document intitially (you'll then be able to amend the combined elements at a later date if necessary) then save as a jpeg when happy with the layout - choose 100% image quality.

For Mac you could try Seashore

DESIGN BY US

How do I arrange for a professional at TeamCalendars to design my calendar for me?

Select the Design by Us area of the website from the homepage and select a calendar style from the gallery.

Upload your images, captions, key dates, sponsors logo’s and any notes which will help our designers.

We require payment in full with your order placement.

Await your proof which we will be emailed to you within 4 working days.

Await your delivery – Orders under 50 calendars will be despatched 5 working days after approval of proof, to arrive on the 6th working day. Orders over 50 calendars will be despatched 10 working days of proof approval, to arrive on the 11th working day.

Can I have several photos on each page of the calendar?

You can supply up to four pictures per page. Our graphic designers will crop and insert your images into our templates and then email you a proof for checking.

The online image collection tool on the website currently only supports the uploading of 1 image per month. If you would like to supply additional images then please email them to us, referencing your order number in the subject line.

How should I supply my photographs?

Ideally you will be able to supply your photographs in a digital format. The golden rule is the bigger the image file size the better the print quality.

We accept images as either Tiff, Jpeg, Psd or Raw file formats (please do not send Microsoft Word or bmp files).

Your digital images need to be ideally in a landscape format (portrait images may be cropped) & saved in a file name that corresponds with the appropriate month.

Please note that images downloaded from websites are rarely of sufficiently high quality for print. All uploaded images are checked for compatibility.

Can I supply hard copy photographs for you to scan?

We are able to scan your hard copy photographs for an extra charge of £4 + VAT per image. Originals will be returned to you with delivery of your printed calendars.

If you are supplying images that you have scanned yourself on a desk top scanner make sure you are supplying them at least 300dpi.

We suggest saving the file as a .jpg at the highest quality, this will compress the file for easier transmission to us.

Can I have different sponsors logo's on each page?

Yes this is no problem - this is a bespoke artwork service and we want your project to be a success so we try to be as flexible as possible.

Do you supply proofs?

Once we have designed your calendar, we will email you a PDF proof for your approval.

If you prefer we can post you a hard copy printed proof at an extra cost (please order 1 calendar at check-out).

Corrections which are our fault will be amended free of charge.

Author’s corrections / changes will be charged at £25 (+VAT) per hour.

If any amendments are made, a new online proof will always be submitted for approval before we proceed with printing.

How do I set up my artwork to be print ready?

CMYK or RGB

We can accept files in RGB (Red/Green/Blue) or CMYK (Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black) format. Our presses use a CMYK ink set so all RGB files will be converted to CMYK before printing. RGB has a wider colour gamut (can encode for more colours) than CMYK so colours outside of the CYMK spectrum may appear duller than the file supplied. These colours tend to be very intense blue, green, red and oranges. If you're concerned how these colours will convert we would advise that you convert the colour to CMYK before supplying the files so you can manage the conversion.

Resolution (image/file size)

To get the best quality print your images should be 300dpi (dots per inch) at the size they appear in the calendar. This is absolutely crucial to the professionalism and visual appeal of your print materials, and while a lower resolution file may seem acceptable on-screen, the difference in quality makes a great difference when physically printed.

Bleed

A ‘bleed’ of at least 3mm should be included around the edges of all artwork. Bleed is the extra area around your artwork that will later be trimmed, which is needed to allow the ink to run naturally without affecting the quality of the print-work. i.e. save the PDF with 6mm added to each measurement (i.e. for A4 usually 210mm x 297mm, save as 216mm x 303mm). Crop marks may be included if you wish. If your artwork is supplied without bleed we may not always be able to add it on for you and you may have to amend and re-supply the artwork.

Microsoft Office Files

If you are creating a PDF from a MS Publisher or Word file, care must be taken to ensure colours are created correctly in your original documents. Do not set to RGB (Red, Green, Blue) colours as they cannot be printed as such, as mentioned above they won't appear as bright when printed.

PDF creation

When creating a PDF in Acrobat Distiller, there are job options which must be set for commercial printing. These include default resolution, compression settings and font embedding.  Where possible ensure a 300dpi PDFx1a 'print' or 'press ready' PDF is outputted.  Please include a 3mm bleed, crop marks and supply as single pages.

Please ensure you choose high resolution. Compression settings for colour and greyscale should be down sampled to 300dpi with "auto compression" set on high. Bitmapped (monochrome: i.e. line art) images should be set at 600dpi. Font embedding should be set to "embed all fonts."

Imposition

Please do not supply imposed pages or "printers pairs" because our workflow includes imposition software to impose correctly for our printing processes.

Fonts

Include all fonts you have used in the file. Whilst we have an extensive font collection, there is no guarantee the version you have used matches ours. This can create problems with line lengths and spacing of the type.

Screens

Screen tints may range from 99% down to 1%.  From a practical printing viewpoint, anything above 90% or less than 5% will generally not be visible to the naked eye.

If your artwork is too large to email (anything over 10 MB) we recommend that you send us your files via www.WeTransfer.com (please enter orders@teamcalendars.co.uk as the recipient address).

Binding

Please bear in mind the method of binding when producing the artwork for your calendars. For all wall style calendars there is a thumbcut (half-moon shape) at the top of the calendar to allow the wire hanger to be inserted and sit flush. This extends 11mm into the calendar so will cut away any imagery/text placed into this area. With this in mind we could allow a clear space of 15mm from the head for any important elements. For calendars that are wiro-bound without the thumb-cut (such as the Desk A5 style) please allow 10mm clear space to any important elements to avoid the standard binding holes.
